Business Analytics

This course introduces participants to the latest trends in analytics in the era of big data, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things. The course explores various data-driven approaches, frameworks, and models used by different industries across functions to improve processes and/or create new and innovative products. In particular, participants will familiarize themselves with the different levels of analytics—descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive, and will be tasked to identify use cases where the approaches can be applied.

The course will also cover data science and artificial intelligence and their roles in the industry—as applied, for example, in manufacturing, marketing, and operations, etc. The course will also highlight the value of data visualization and storytelling, which has been identified as an “Essential Data Science Skill Everyone Needs”.

In the course, students are expected to learn by doing. They will describe, analyze, and interpret data and models with simulation(s) and/or MS Excel. One important motif in the Business Analytics course is for participants to understand the latest trends and techniques in the field and to know the appropriate use of these techniques and models.
